Example: a Squirtle Water / Special direction
This is a planning example built from the v0.7.1 menu descriptions, not a tested best build. The goal is to make your item choices support the same attacks.
Squirtle starts with Water Gun (Water / Special). Its own-kit panel lists Bubble at level 2 and Hydro Pump at level 7, both Water / Special. Mystic Water describes +30% Water-type move damage and +3% total damage; Wise Glasses describes +15% Special damage. These effects match the labels on those attacks.
Rapid Spin is Normal / Physical. That makes it a useful counterexample: do not count a Water-only or Special-only bonus as supporting every move in the kit.
| Decision | Why it belongs in this example |
|---|---|
| Read Water Gun / Bubble / Hydro Pump | Identify shared Water and Special labels. |
| Compare Mystic Water and Wise Glasses | Their stated conditions match that direction. |
| Read Choice Specs carefully | Special damage bonus comes with an attack-speed reduction. |
| Check capacity before planning another attack | A desired new move still needs its eligibility and slot conditions. |
Keep a small build worksheet
You do not need a complex spreadsheet. A compact note that preserves these fields is enough to prevent hindsight from turning every lucky run into a perfect strategy. Keep the original note when an attempt disappoints; it is useful evidence about consistency.
| Field | A useful note |
|---|---|
| Goal | What would count as an improvement? |
| Starting conditions | Partner, region, mode, version and major Lab upgrades. |
| Main choices | Exact move, item or vitamin names and the reason for choosing them. |
| Outcome | What happened at the point you intended to compare? |
| Next change | One decision to keep, replace or investigate. |
Read conditions before combining effects
Keep elemental type, damage class and offer requirements separate. The same partner can use attacks with different labels. Check each card instead of assigning a single damage category to the whole Pokémon.
The listed percentages are not a confirmed final-damage formula. Do not multiply every visible percentage and call it measured DPS. Use the move panel to inspect the current display, then compare similar runs if you want to test the practical outcome.
Change one major decision at a time
If you change partner, controls, mode and several permanent upgrades together, the next result cannot tell you which change helped. Keep the comparison focused, repeat it when practical and record variation rather than selecting only the best attempt.
Decide what the result can support. A more comfortable aiming mode supports a personal preference. A displayed stat change supports a statement about that display. Several comparable results may support a tentative strategy observation. None automatically establishes a universal ranking.
- Treat conditional bonuses as conditional.
- Include failed attempts when comparing reliability.
- Record the update version alongside the build.
- Use actual credited rewards if the goal is a Lab budget.
Turn the note into a next action
Keep the choice that addressed the intended problem, then test the next uncertainty. If the bottleneck is a purchase, use the budget planner. If it is a missing move, check eligibility. A sequence of small, explainable improvements is easier to maintain when the game changes.
A PokeBonk Squirtle build question you can test
A focused PokeBonk Squirtle build question is whether your choices support the Water / Special attacks you expect to use. Water Gun, Bubble and Hydro Pump share those labels in the observed menu. Rapid Spin does not: it is Normal / Physical. Note which attacks an item actually supports, then compare similar runs. This makes a useful PokeBonk build guide without calling the example a verified best build.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a best PokeBonk build or a planning example?
It is a planning example based on observed move labels and item descriptions. It is not a verified best build, tier list or measured damage comparison.
